Puck-man?
January 6th, 2007 at 7:46 pm (Finished Objects 2006, Socks)
I learned from the Wikipedia entry that this was the original title of Pac-man, but when the Japanese started to market the game in North America it was changed to Pac-man. For those of you that haven’t already figured out why, switch that first letter. Just think of all the good old-fashioned linguistic fun that we were cheated out of as kids.
Pattern: TechGuy by Alison Hansel
Mods: The sock pattern and idea are from the TechGuy pattern. I did the PacMan charts from screen captures of the game. Alison did this for the old Atari Game Breakout and suggested that you could do this for any older game as they are all already pixelated for you in screen captures. (I am currently making the Breakout socks for P-funk, part of his series of late gifts.)
Needles: US4 Addi Turbos and US4 Knitpicks interchangeables (This worked out well even thought the Knitpicks needles are slightly smaller than normal US sizes.)
Yarn: Louet Gems Opal in Teal and Navy, Knitpicks Shine for the Pac-man designs
Started: Dec 12
Completed: Dec 23
Sportweight yarn rocks for socks. These socks were a present for one of my brother-in-laws. I originally had set aside some Lisa Souza sock yarn for his socks. Then I realized that I might go crazy trying to knit size 12 socks in fingering weight yarn in time for Christmas. I was also having problems thinking of a pattern or design that would be quick but still interesting. Enter sportweight yarn and the TechGuy pattern. I love this squishy soft yarn and I love the short-row heels and quick simplicity of this sock pattern.
I also learned that the ghosts I included on the socks are Blinky and Clyde.
Stay tuned tomorrow for my final present reveal (It is one for myself. It wasn’t technically a Christmas present, but since trying to finish it interfered with Christmas present knitting, I’ll include it in the same category.)

Awesome socks! I knew Blinky’s name but I honestly thought they were all named Blinky! Haha.

Oh, these are hilarious! Love them. I had kind of forgotten about the Tech Guy socks, but now I feel like I need some Ms. Pac-Man ones for myself!

Ashley tipped me off to your blog and while the hooded sweater is gorgeous, THESE SOCKS ROCK! :)
I’ve been holding off on making DH socks, but after Xmas he said he wanted some and I had just boring old green and blue yarn, but THIS will be cool… :) yippee!

These are amazing! I’ve been looking for something to make my techie husband and these are perfect. I may try space invaders. Thanks so much for the suggestion!

These socks are ingenious. I’m currently trying to design a scarf with a pac-man design for my boyf (and at the same time learn how to knit!) and your socks so well made they’re very inspirational.
