The Liberation Update
June 9th, 2007 at 10:15 am (Socks)
The Yarn Harlot supports the movement.*
This Single Sock Liberation Movement has been going on for awhile. There is the leader, the most proficient follower, and my own struggle against the two sock hegemony. My entry into the movement some time ago was a tortured one. Many of you may remember my initial struggles against the man
I wasn’t sure if I would prevail, however I was able to overcome…for a time.
I was able to valiantly carry on the fight for many more weeks.
Jaywalker in Fly Dyed Monarch, Raspberry Creme
Anastasia sock in Mama E’s C*eye*ber Fiber, English Roses
Roza’s sock in Socks that Rock Silkie, Walking on the Wild Tide
Basic sock in Koigu KPPM P108, contrast in STR Monsoon
Monkey sock in Sweet Georgia, Rainforest
Cable Twist sock in Sundara Sock, Carribean
However, many of you have denigrated the movement. Voices rose up against me and my fellow comrades. Voices shouting sentiments like “Come back to your senses, you have two feet, two feet.” Doubters, Judases.
Yet I have to admit that the struggle against these voices has started to wear me down. They echo in my head. The chant gets louder “Two feet, Two feet, Two feet..” The voices just won’t stop.
I may have been able to continue the fight, bolstered by some new recruits, but the yarn turned against me. Yes, the yarn cannot be trusted either. I thought they were fellow revolutionaries, but a few in particular have been joining in the chant of “Two, two.”
So my fellow comrades, I am afraid that my time in the movement is coming to a close. I am weak and can no longer fight as I used to. I shall miss you, but I intend to go out with honor.
As a contribution to the movement, I will offer a reward to the person who can catch the culprit who has worn me down. But do not greive for me comrades, my sorrow at the end to my valient struggle is tempered by the fact that I will soon break free of a different tyrant (my dreaded job)
The contest:
Guess which sock will soon meet its mate and I will become your personal shopper at the Black Sheep Gathering. I will use a random number generator to pick one person from the correct answers. I mean, come on, I will be unemployed after all, and knitters are smart. I’m sure that more than one of you can spot the sock that has betrayed me. We will hatch a battle plan together so I will know whether to infiltrate The Fold or flank to some spinning fiber or worsted weight.
You have until Wednesday at midnight to catch the mutinous one.
*Well okay, maybe the Yarn Harlot is just amused by the movement…but in a good way.
Edited to add:
Hey, I’m on the Yarn Harlot’s blog! Check me out with my grin that says, in P-funk’s words, “If I smiled any wider my muscles would pull away from my jawbone and my face would snap in half!”

It’s a hard battle– the more I knit, the more I started thinking about those second socks. I’ll also guess the Monkey. It’s such a compelling pattern for reasons beyond my comprehension :)

I was going to vote for the Monkey, but clearly that’s the front runner, and I’m more of a dark horse kind of girl.
Koigu! Koigu! Koigu!

I vote it’s theeee….
Basic sock in Koigu KPPM P108, contrast in STR Monsoon!

My vote goes to the Cable Twist Socks. That Sundara yarn is just so yummy… :-D Beautiful socks, all of them!

hmmm, this is a hard call! I am going to buck the trends and go for the Anastasia socks because that pattern is just too cool! As someone who now has 5 singles floating around the house and a new pattern I want to start on I hear ya!!

*giggle* Awesome post. Someone’s gotta guess Roza’s Sock, right? It’s me.

Oh, this is a great post. I love laughing while I roam the blogs :-) My guess is for the Monkey, too.

I think it’s Anastasia. No real reason, just a feeling. They’re all gorgeous socks and deserve to meet their sole-mate. *ahem* ;-)

I think it’s the Sundara socks. That yarn with the Hello Yarn pattern could be deadly!
knittingphilistine said,

Totally the Sundara socks. That yarn is uber-deadly.

PS: And who likes having a project with a deadline weighing on their minds? Get that other Sockapalooza sock out of the way!
sharon said,

I’m thinking the Roza’s sock. all of them are gorgeous though and I really feel the ‘fear of the second sock’. But you do have two feet.
nova said,
June 9, 2007 at 2:27 pm
I am going with the Cable twist. I think you want to get the “obligatory” knit done and over with (beautifully dyed though the yarn may be).
Megan said,
June 9, 2007 at 2:28 pm
They’re all beautiful and worthy of mates, but I have to guess the Monkeys. I mean, it’s got to be the most addictive sock pattern ever, and in Sweet Georgia? You didn’t stand a chance.
Sarah said,
June 9, 2007 at 2:31 pm
I think the monkey will finish first…it is so easy to knit, so hard to resist.
Just look around the internet for inspiration!

My favorite is the Roza’s sock but my vote goes to the Monkey, because it’s green and you ARE a member of the green sock KAL, after all!
Blessings!

I’ll guess Anastasia will be the next sock to meet its mate.
I really really like the basic Koigu/STR socks too!

Sure looks like Anastasia to me, but man, that Sundara sock is pretty damn gorgeous.
I just recently joined the movement, and with three different socks on the needles, I think I am getting the vapors. 8? I’m impressed.

It’s got to me my. . .uhhh someone’s Sockapalooza sock. That Sundara Sock Caribbean is just too beautiful to leave it ’single in the city.’ Besides I. . . uh, I mean, your sock pal won’t want to hop around on one foot all day! :)
Don’t know if I can make it to the Black Sheep Gathering, but sounds like you’re giving a really good reason to find time for it. :)

I hate to be a bandwagoner, but I have to guess Monkey. Why? Because I think that’s the one I would pick (love the green), and I notice we tend to gravitate towards similar projects….

Stacey said,

You look totally adorable on the Harlot website! :) We ended up not staying for the signing part, but I kinda which I had.
I’m going to guess the Monkey sock as well, but I don’t need a personal shopper at Black Sheep – I think I’ll do just fine on my own! :) I just want the satisfaction if that is the right choice!
Melissa said,
June 10, 2007 at 3:33 pm
My guess is for the Monkey sock is Sweet Georgia yarn, since it just looks so damn cool. I don’t need the personal shopping service though, since I plan on going to Black Sheep (yay!).

Monkey all the way.
I am also guilty as charged on the single sock thing – I knitted 18 single socks last year I think…. Two more this year, but some are now starting to get mates. Ooops. Plus my friend Kellie doesn’t make pairs of socks any longer – she just knits them in different patterns (peevegirl.blogspot)

Mama Grouch said,
June 11, 2007 at 4:39 pm
Monkey or Cable? Monkey or Cable? Monkey is fun but cable is oh so pretty. Then there is the pleasing regularity of the Jaywalker and the ’round and ’round-ness of the Anastasia….so tough. So tough.
I am going to have to say Monkey because no one in their right mind would want to do a second sock of cables unless absolutely necessary. right?
jupiterjessica said,
June 11, 2007 at 7:47 pm
Wowsers. I was going to guess the monkey but….you have to finish the cable sock set for you partner. I’m guessing the cable twist in sundara. :D

OK, Monkey.
